My Mission in Science

It’s been a while that I have been planning to return to Daily Dose, planning on my vision for the site and my role in the science world. I want to share here my mission statement and my views on science as a way to kick off the “new” Science Daily Dose. I look forward to sharing more in the near future!

My Mission in Science

  • Literacy in scientific literature
  • Dissemination of discoveries
  • Connecting to the context

Part I: Literacy in scientific literature

By and large, scientific literature is written by scientists for scientists. Original research is published in scientific journals, many of which require a paid subscription to access. Thus, much of the information about the current state of scientific research comes from press releases (generally at the request of the laboratory where the research was conducted). My first goal is to translate the science in a meaningful way so that the impact of the science can be highlighted.

Part II: Dissemination of discoveries

My expertise is in chemistry and biology, but I have a love for all things science and want to share the great things that are happening in a way that is understandable and relatable. My second goal is to share the latest in science discoveries.

Part III: Connecting to the context

My third goal is to put into context the scientific discoveries I’m highlighting so that it becomes clear the (possible) impact and importance of the work. This is one of the most important things I can do as a science communicator, and it’s something about which I am very passionate.
